Dr. Cumbo has over twenty-five years of experience in the photonics and microelectronics industries, and is a well recognized expert in precision optical fabrication and thin-film coating technology. Before joining Raydiance, he served as the CEO of BinOptics Corporation, a pre-IPO compound semiconductor laser startup that was originally funded by Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Prior to BinOptics, he was the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the optical components group of Coherent (COHR), which included that company’s passive and non-linear optics, laser measurement, and semiconductor diode laser business units. Dr. Cumbo also served in a variety of general management and technical leadership roles at JDS Uniphase (JDSU) and at Optical Coating Laboratory, Inc. (OCLI). Earlier in his career, he worked as an optical and thin-film coating engineer at Bausch & Lomb (BOL) and at Eastman Kodak (EK). Dr. Cumbo was educated at the University of Rochester and at Rochester Institute of Technology. He earned a B.S. in physics, an M.S. in optical engineering, and a Ph.D. in optics at the U of R, and an M.S. in electrical engineering at RIT. |
