Mr. Wright joined SUPERVALU INC. in March of 1977 as Senior Vice President, became President and Chief Operating Officer in 1978, Chief Executive Officer in 1981, and Chairman in 1982. Mr. Wright retired as CEO in June of 2001 and as Chairman in June of 2002. Prior to joining SUPERVALU INC. he practiced law with the firm Dorsey & Whitney, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mr. Wright is past chairman and current member of the board of Food Marketing Institute (FMI), and a former chairman of Food Distributors International (formerly NAWGA). He is also a member of the board of Cargill, Inc., Honeywell International, Inc., Wells Fargo & Company, S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. and Canadian Pacific Railway Company.
Mr. Wright serves as Trustee Emeritus of the University of Minnesota Foundation and is on the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota Law School Board of Visitors. He also serves on the St. Thomas Academy Board of Trustees. He is a 1999 recipient of the Horatio Alger Award and is past chairman of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank and the Minnesota Business Partnership. |
