Michael Shane Welsh graduated from Auburn University, summa cum laude, with a BA in English in 1990. He graduated from Duke University Law School with a JD in 1993.
Prior to joining Major, Lindsey & Africa in Chicago, Michael was a litigator for fourteen years. He began his practice with Branch Pike & Ganz, which became the Atlanta, Georgia office of Holland & Knight. Then for seven years he ran a small litigation firm specializing in technology and employment disputes. In 2003, he joined the Atlanta office of Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Martin, working in the commercial litigation and bankruptcy group. Michael's experience as an associate and a partner in both large and small firm environments gives him a valuable perspective from which to advise lawyers who are evaluating new opportunities in the Chicago market.
In 2006, Michael relocated to Chicago when his wife, Stephanie Pater, took an executive position with Kirkland & Ellis. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his seven year old son, a future mayor of Chicago or a NASCAR driver. He also enjoys playing golf, reading, and working on the great American novel.
