Experience
Before joining Pierce Atwood in 1990, Michael practiced with the national law firm of Hunton & Williams in Richmond, Virginia. His nearly 18 years of experience has involved a varied practice. Michael has experience in corporate, commercial and real property litigation in federal and state courts and before administrative agencies. His litigation experience includes employee benefits litigation, state and local tax litigation, and state and local tax advice.
Michael also is a certified public accountant and has several years of public accounting experience with a Big Six firm. His legal skills and accounting background combine to bring unique expertise to each matter including, in particular, complex litigation matters.
Education
Michael holds a B.S.B.A. degree, Delta Mu Delta, summa cum laude, from Western New England College (1979) and a J.D., cum laude, from Western New England College (1984). He was the recipient of the Certificate of Award for Academic Excellence in Accounting and the American Jurisprudence Award in Trusts & Estates.
Professional Activities
Michael is a member of the Cumberland County, Maine State, and American (Litigation and Taxation Sections) Bar Associations. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Maine and Massachusetts Societies of Certified Public Accountants.
Publications
He is the author of The Property Tax Deskbook, (Maine Chapter), American Bar Association (1995 - 2002 editions).

Michael is admitted to the practice in Maine (1990), Massachusetts (1985), New York (1985), and Virginia (1986); the U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia (1986); the U.S. District Court, District of Maine (1990) and the U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit (1992).
