Dr. Michael Carhart is a Managing Engineer in Exponent's Biomechanics practice. Dr. Carhart's expertise is in the biomechanics of human injury and accident reconstruction specializing in the areas of musculoskeletal and rigid body dynamics simulation and measurement of human movement human injury tolerance and occupant kinematics. He has a decade of experience analyzing accidents and injuries associated with falls transportation and the workplace. Dr. Carhart's research includes the biomechanics of normal and pathological posture and walking and the development of dynamic musculoskeletal models of the human body for the analysis of movement and internal forces. He also evaluates rehabilitation engineering approaches to the recovery of standing and walking following spinal cord injury including spinal cord stimulation peripheral nerve stimulation and sensorimotor training.
Prior to joining Exponent Dr. Carhart was a Research Scientist at the Arizona BioDesign Institute at Arizona State University and a consultant with Forensic Dynamics LLC. Dr. Carhart has undergraduate and graduate teaching experience in biomechanics biomedical instrumentation computer modeling and microcomputer applications in bioengineering. |
