Dr. Trova received undergraduate training at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (B.S. 1983) followed by a doctorate in organic chemistry from the Ohio State University in 1987. After two years of postdoctoral research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he became a staff scientist in the medicinal chemistry department of the Medical Research Division of the American Cyanamid Company, where he contributed to Cyanamid's discovery efforts in the anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and anti-cancer programs.
Dr. Trova was recruited in August, 1995 to Albany Molecular Research, Inc. as Assistant Director of Medicinal Chemistry. Dr. Trova was responsible for directing the research efforts of a group of medicinal chemists (4-8 scientists/technicians) who were involved with a number of projects. Dr. Trova was promoted in August, 1996 to Director of Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry with significantly increased responsibilities (20-25 scientists/technicians). In March of 1998 he was promoted to Vice President, Medicinal Chemistry and then in August, 2000 another promotion led him to Senior Vice President.
Projects of current interest under his direction are in the areas of cardiovascular diseases, inflammation, and cancer. Areas of research interest to Dr. Trova include asymmetric synthesis, heterocycles, medicinal chemistry, and natural product synthesis.
A member of the American Chemical Society since 1982, Dr. Trova is a member of the Organic and Medicinal Chemistry divisions within the ACS. He is also a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the American Peptide Society. Dr. Trova has received multiple patents and grants as well as over fifteen publications and oral presentations. |
