Michael is a litigator in Faegre & Benson's finance and restructuring practice, where he focuses on high-stakes disputes among sophisticated parties in the financial markets. He handles litigation and ADR nationwide involving financial institutions, lenders, brokers, investment funds, and fiduciaries such as indenture trustees. Among other things, Michael defends lender liability actions, prosecutes default and related actions on behalf of creditors, and represents creditors in bankruptcy cases. Michael's experience in public company litigation includes defending securities fraud class actions and shareholder derivative suits, fending off hostile takeover bids, and representing clients in SEC investigations. Michael also focuses on merger and acquisition litigation, including commercial breach of contract and fraud actions with potential damages in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
From 1999 through 2003, Michael served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York where he represented the federal government in affirmative and defensive civil litigation. While there he tried several cases in federal district court and argued more than ten appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
From 2001 through 2004, Michael also served as an adjunct professor at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
