Michael L. Shaffer came to Atlas Van Lines as a Dispatcher in 1969. Over the years, he was promoted to various positions within Atlas, including Vice President and General Manager of Atlas Van Lines of Texas; Vice President of Operations; Senior Vice President of Transportation Services and President, U.S. Van Lines Transportation Group. In 1996, Shaffer became President and Chief Operating Officer of Atlas World Group and Atlas Van Lines. Three years later, in 1999, he became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of both companies.
After leading Atlas through a period of tremendous growth, Shaffer is looking forward to retirement at the end of 2007. He will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board for Atlas World Group and Atlas Van Lines until that time.
