Michael L. Hirschfeld is a partner in the Litigation Department of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP. His practice focuses on federal and state court litigation of complex commercial matters and class actions involving securities and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, life insurance sales practices and RICO. Mr. Hirschfeld is a member of the AIG Directors and Officers Defense Panel and has nearly 30 years' experience representing companies and individuals before the Securities and Exchange Commission and self-regulatory organizations in investigative and disciplinary proceedings. Mr. Hirschfeld also has extensive experience counseling participants in international transactions and financings on litigation risks and strategies.
In 1996, shortly after joining Milbank, Mr. Hirschfeld was instrumental in negotiating on behalf of firm client Liggett Group Inc. the first groundbreaking tobacco product liability settlement with state Attorneys General. In 2000, Mr. Hirschfeld successfully concluded the representation of former directors of Johnson & Higgins in prosecuting securities, fiduciary duty and ERISA claims arising from the acquisition of Johnson & Higgins.
