Michael L. Gellner joined Oblon Spivak after 39 years experience in Intellectual Property law both at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and in private practice. Within the USPTO he served as a Primary Examiner, Supervisory Patent Examiner (SPE), Special Programs Examiner (SPRE), and Associate Solicitor. He also has experience in a wide variety of electrical and mechanical technologies.
In the examining corps, he had a wide range of experience in all examining procedures including reexamination (as group reexam expert), reissue, PCT cases and petitions. Within the Solicitor’s Office he wrote briefs and argued cases before the CAFC and prepared motions in cases in the U.S. District Court. He has received dozens of awards, including the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal.
In private practice, Mr. Gellner represented clients in a variety of matters at the USPTO and served as an expert witness on patent law and examining procedures in various litigation cases.
Mr. Gellner received a Juris Doctor, with honors, from The George Washington University Law School and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Maryland, where he was inducted into the Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society and was on the Dean’s List.
Mr. Gellner is admitted to the State Bars of Maryland and California (where he is a member of the Intellectual Property Section), the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He also served as past president of the Patent Lawyers Club of Washington. |
