Michael Magness, managing director with the New York office of Major, Lindsey & Africa, brings a broad background in legal search and consulting, plus more than 30 years of experience working closely with the senior management of top law firms and with their partners. He has placed partners or groups in the New York offices of major law firms, including Cadwalader, Kaye Scholer, LeBoeuf Lamb, Ropes & Gray, KMZ Rosenman, Thelen Reid & Priest, Winston & Strawn, Piper Rudnick, Torys and Vinson & Elkins, among others.
Prior to joining MLA’s Partner Practice Group, Michael was a managing director with another well-known New York legal search firm, a founding partner in Magness & Wehmann (a legal recruitment and development consulting firm), a legal search consultant with Human Resource Services, Inc., executive director of Martindale Search Services (a subsidiary of Martindale-Hubbell), and assistant dean for placement services at NYU School of Law. He also served for several years as chief administrative officer of Robinson Lake Sawyer Miller, a crisis communications consulting firm.
Michael is a past president of the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), a frequent contributor to the legal press, and co-editor of Your New Lawyer: The Complete Guide to Lawyer Recruiting, Management and Development (American Bar Association, 1992).
Michael earned his J.D. and a B.A. in History from Case Western Reserve University and practiced with a Cleveland law firm after graduation from law school. |
