Mr. Chesser joined the Company in October 2003 as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer after a distinguished career in the utility industry that began at Baltimore Gas and Electric. He subsequently served as President and Chief Operating Officer at Atlantic Energy Inc. and President and CEO at GPU Energy an electric utility serving New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Great Plains Energy he was Chairman and CEO of United Water which owns and operates several regulated water utilities along with its contract operations.
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech; a master’s of Business Administration in Finance from Loyola College Baltimore; and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He is also an Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni of Georgia Tech.
Mr. Chesser is active in the community serving as a trustee of the University of Missouri-Kansas City and the Midwest Research Institute (MRI). He is Chairman of the Board for the Partnership for Children; a director of the UMB Financial Corporation; a board member of the Heart of America United Way the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI); serves on the Early Learning Leadership Board of the Mid-America Regional Council; and is a member of the Civic Council of Greater Kansas City and the Kansas Business Education Partnership. He is the Civic Council representative of the Economic Development Corporation.

Mr. Chesser is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer - Great Plains Energy and Chairman of the Board - KCP&L (since October 2003). Previously he served as Chief Executive Officer of United Water (2002-2003); and President and Chief Executive Officer of GPU Energy (2000-2002); and President and Chief Executive Officer of Itron Inc. (1999-2000). Mr. Chesser is a member of the Executive committee. |
