Michael J. McGovern practices in the area of criminal defense law.
He focuses on trial litigation including federal and state matters in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as grand jury and white collar criminal proceedings.
Mike is a graduate of Villanova University and Temple University School of Law.
Prior to joining Monteverde McAlee & Hurd in 1996, Mike worked for the Defender Association of Philadelphia from 1976-1980; the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office from 1980-1993 as Assistant Chief of Homicide and Chief of Major Trials; and as partner with Jack McMahon, Esq., in a firm that specialized in criminal defense and representation of police, from 1993 to 1996.
Mike is a member of the bar of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the state of New Jersey. He is admitted to the following federal courts: Eastern District of Pennsylvania and District of New Jersey. He has also been named as a Super Lawyer in Pennsylvania for 2007.
Mike has been a guest lecturer in criminal law and capital homicide trial strategy for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, Philadelphia Bar Education Center, University of Pennsylvania Law School, Rutgers-Camden School of Law, Philadelphia District Attorneys Continuing Legal Education Seminars and the National Fraternal Order of Police Legal Counselors Seminar.
Mike is a lifetime resident of Philadelphia. His legal career was featured prominently in A Prayer for the City, a critically acclaimed work of non-fiction by Pulitzer Prize winning author Buzz Bissinger, published by Random House. |
