Dr. Breslow is an intensivist who has practiced critical care medicine for twenty years. Prior to founding VISICU, Dr. Breslow was associate professor of anesthesia, internal medicine, and surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. During his time at Hopkins, Dr. Breslow directed the surgical intensive care unit and ran the fellowship training program in surgical critical care. He had a productive research career, gaining recognition for his work on trauma-related complications. He also was a leader in the area of perioperative medicine, publishing a textbook and starting the preeminent postgraduate course in the field. He has been an invited lecturer at national and international meetings and participated in critical care medicine programs worldwide. Dr. Breslow has served on the scientific advisory Boards of the Association of University Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, and is currently on the board of directors of the American Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists. He has been an associate editor of the journals Critical Care Medicine and Anesthesiology.
Dr. Breslow was a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University in 1972, with a BA degree in biochemistry. He graduated in 1976 from the Tufts University School of Medicine and went on to internship, residency— and a chief residency position in Internal Medicine at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Following this, he completed a residency in Anesthesiology and a Fellowship Program in Critical Care Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital. |
