Michael F. Brown joined Drinker Biddle in October of 1989. He is a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Insurance Practice Groups and a member of the Business and Finance as well as Securities and Corporate Governance Litigation Teams.
Areas of Concentration. Michael’s practice covers a wide range of complex commercial litigation, including insurance coverage disputes, securities litigation, shareholder derivative actions, lender liability actions and a variety of commercial contract disputes. Over the past four years, Michael has been principally engaged in bankruptcy-related litigation, including a number of asbestos bankruptcies. His most notable engagements are on behalf of insurers embroiled in various aspects of In Re: Pittsburgh Corning Corporation; In Re: W.R. Grace & Co.; and In Re: A.P.I. Inc . Michael has also been an invited speaker at various conferences on asbestos bankruptcies, including Mealey’s Asbestos Bankruptcy Conference (Chicago, June 7-8, 2004) and Mealey’s Asbestos Litigation 101 Conference (Washington, D.C., February 14-15, 2005). Michael also just completed a five-year term on Drinker Biddle’s Intake Committee, which is responsible for addressing potential conflicts of interest raised by new firm engagements.
Education. Michael received his undergraduate degree from Duke University, where he graduated cum laude in 1984. After graduation, he studied for one year at the Freie Universität Berlin as the recipient of an academic exchange scholarship. The following year, he spent a semester at the Universität Tübingen in what was then West Germany. In 1989, he graduated from the Villanova University School of Law, where he was an articles editor of the law review.
Professional Memberships. He is also a member of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and American Bar Associations, as well as the ABA’s Litigation Section and the PBA’s Civil Litigation Section. |
