Michael F. Ahern is the vice president of Utility Group Services for the Northeast Utilities
system (NU). He is responsible for System Restoration and Emergency Preparedness
Distribution Engineering Vegetation Management Information Technology Applications and
Development Training and Corporate Transportation.
A native of Arlington Massachusetts Ahern holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Worcester
Polytechnic Institute and Master of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is also a registered professional engineer in Connecticut.
Ahern began his career at NU in 1981 as an engineer in the generation engineering department.
He later transferred to Millstone station and held a series of increasingly responsible positions
there. Following the sale of Millstone to Dominion Resources in 2002 Ahern returned to NU as
director of Distribution Engineering in 2003. He led NU’s Transmission Operations in 2004 and
he was promoted to his current position in 2005.
Prior to joining NU Ahern was employed by the Pratt & Whitney division of United
Technologies Corporation.
Ahern is a member of the Yankee Atomic Power Company Board of Directors and the Maine
Yankee Atomic Power Company Board of Directors. He is active in the Electric Power Research
Institute’s Advisory Committee is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is
involved with his local church St. John’s.
Ahern lives in Old Saybrook Connecticut with his wife Kathy daughter Allison and son Jonathan. |
