Michael D. First, the founder of Graphcom, has retired since the company was acquired by Consolidated Graphics. His contributions were so significant in maintaining Graphcom’s strength and stability, we honor him with this profile. Mike began his career in the accounting field with a BS degree in Business from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. Mike attained his Certified Public Accountant certificate while working in the accounting firm of Gary, Stosch Walls and Company in Richmond He was elected Managing Partner of the firm in 1975 until 1984 when he became the CFO for a large direct mail and printing company in Richmond, Virginia. Mike founded Graphcom in 1987 with 7 employees. During the time Mike was developing and managing Graphcom he always looked to the printing association for guidance and assistance in many different ar of many of the programs offered by the Association including the training programs and health insurance. In 1997 Mike was elected to the Board of Directors of the Printing Industry Associations of Georgia (PIAG). He has served as an officer of the Association and also has served on numerous committees including chairing the Finance Committee. For 2001, Mike served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Printing Industry Association of Georgia. He was active in the local chapter and on a national level. He has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Printing Industries of America to represent Georgia. He was also a member of the PIA Long Range Planning Committee and the Presidents Conference Committee. For 2005 Mike was as a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of PIA/GATF.
