Michael A. Zimmerman is of counsel to the firm and chairs the firm's Taxation, Trusts and Estates practice group. Mr. Zimmerman is a Tax Lawyer who received his Masters in Law in Taxation from New York University Law School in 1979. Mr. Zimmerman received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of South Carolina with a scholastic honor, having been admitted to the Order of Wig and Robe therein. Mr. Zimmerman was a Member of the South Carolina Law Review. He is admitted to the United States Tax Court, U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the United States Court of Claims. Mr. Zimmerman was a Tax and Trial Attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service from 1974 to 1977.
Mr. Zimmerman represents a wide range of corporations and individuals in areas that include corporate tax planning, sophisticated estate planning involving large estates, the drafting of wills, trusts, private annuities, qualified personal residence trusts and like kind documents. Mr. Zimmerman also represents individuals and corporations before the United States Tax Court, the Internal Revenue Service, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and other courts and governmental agencies.
Mr. Zimmerman does a substantial amount of work in the area of international taxation, creating Offshore Asset Protection Trusts which protect an individuals assets from judgments obtained within the United States. Mr. Zimmerman also engages in foreign and international tax planning for United States citizens in numerous jurisdictions outside the United States as well as representing foreign individuals and citizens engaged in United States businesses. |
