Michael A. Whittaker is Vice President, Intellectual Properties for Biosite Incorporated. He joined the Company in 2003 and is responsible for strategic guidance and direction with regard to worldwide intellectual property issues and serves as a corporate legal advisor. He also manages Biosite’s intellectual property portfolio including, invention disclosures, patent applications, corporate trade secrets, copyrights and trademarks. Prior to his current position, he served as Senior Director, Intellectual Properties.
Prior to joining Biosite, Whittaker worked in the intellectual properties group at the law firms of Foley & Lardner, Brobeck, Pheleger & Harris LLP and Lyon & Lyon LLP, during which time he provided advice to Biosite on patent and trademark issues for several years prior to joining the company.
Whittaker received his law degree from the University of San Diego, from which he graduated magna cum laude. He received his master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of California, Irvine. He spent fifteen years as a biomedical researcher, and is an author on 20 scientific articles and numerous meeting abstracts, including publications in the journals Science, Nature, Cell and the Journal of Molecular Biology. |
