Mr. Peterson is of counsel at Carrington, Coleman, Sloman & Blumenthal, L.L.P. His practice consists principally of tax matters and employee benefit matters. His tax representation includes advising both publicly traded and privately held companies on a broad range of issues related to both federal and state tax matters, including planning issues for all types of business transactions, particularly business formations and mergers and acquisitions, as well as some controversy work related to both federal and state tax disputes. A growing area of involvement has been bankruptcy tax issues. Mr. Peterson is also involved in advising individuals about personal tax issues and issues regarding the best vehicle for their business or family assets. Mr. Peterson's experience in the area of employee benefits and executive compensation also involves a broad range of issues. He advises publicly traded and privately held companies in the design, implementation and administration of qualified retirement plans, health and other welfare plans and executive compensation programs, including qualified and non-qualified stock options, deferred compensation agreements and restricted and phantom stock. He advises with respect to employee benefits issues in mergers and acquisitions and other business transactions. He handles matters involving audits and administrative proceedings with the Internal Revenue Service and Department of Labor. In addition, Mr. Peterson has an active charitable tax practice. He regularly handles matters relating to the organization and continuing representation of nonprofit organizations, particularly charities. This representation also involves counseling on a number of day-to-day corporate matters. |
