Merrit Jones, a litigation associate at Cooper, White & Cooper LLP, practices trial and appellate litigation, with an emphasis on telecommunications, business and media law. Ms. Jones graduated with honors from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, earning a concentration in civil litigation, and was inducted into the Order of the Coif. While at Hastings, she won Best Brief and Third Overall in the David E. Snodgrass Moot Court Competition and competed in a national moot court competition. She served as technical editor of the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly, which published her note, "First Amendment Protection for Newsgathering: Applying the Actual Malice Standard to Recovery of Damages for Intrusion." During law school, Ms. Jones was a teaching assistant for classes in Civil Procedure, Moot Court, and Appellate Advocacy. She also served a year-long clerkship in the U.S. Department of the Interior's Solicitors Office for the Presidio of San Francisco. Ms. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism degree from Northwestern University. Prior to law school, she worked as a newspaper reporter and then editor for Gannett Co., Inc. |
