Melvin F. Jager is a consultant to Ocean Tomo. He is the Past President of The Licensing Executives Society International and The Licensing Executives Society (U.S.A. and Canada, Inc.) Prior to joining Ocean Tomo, he was engaged in the private practice of intellectual property law and licensing for 35 years as a senior member of the firm of Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione in Chicago, Illinois, where he was Chair of the Licensing Practice Group. His law practice concentrated in IP litigation, patent analysis and due diligence, licensing and general IP counseling. He has served as an expert witness in patent and trade secret litigation, and as an arbitrator in international licensing disputes.
Mr. Jager is recognized internationally as a leader in intellectual property law and licensing. He is the author of a leading three-volume treatise on Trade Secrets Law, and has written numerous additional articles on patents, trade secrets and licensing. Mr. Jager has presented speeches on IP and licensing in many countries throughout the world, including presentations and articles for the Practicing Law Institute, the John Marshall Intellectual Property Law Institute, and the LES Technology Transfer Institute. Mr. Jager is an adjunct professor of Patent Litigation in the College of Law at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and formerly taught Trade Secrets Law in the Masters Level Program at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Mr. Jager has been an adjunct professor and guest lecturer in patents, trade secrets and licensing at the Law School at the University of Victoria, in Victoria B.C. and at St. Peters College of Law at Oxford University in Oxford, UK.
Prior to becoming active in The Licensing Executives Society, Mr. Jager was Chair of the IP Litigation Committee for the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, Chair of the Patent Trademark and Copyright Section of the Illinois Bar Association and President of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago. He is also a member of the American Law Institute.
Mr. Jager holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois and a JD from the University of Illinois College of Law. |
