Melissa Beck Biography :

Dr. Melissa Beck is the Outpatient Coordinator of the Pediatric Psychology Consultation Service and Clinic, Department of Behavioral Psychology, at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Beck is also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and a Medical Staff Psychologist in the Department of Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Biographical Sketch:

Dr. Beck received her Bachelors Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and continued her education at East Carolina University for her Masters Degree in School Psychology. She returned to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to complete her Ph.D in School Psychology. She did her internship and postdoctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in child clinical and pediatric psychology. Dr. Beck became the Outpatient Coordinator of the Pediatric Psychology Clinic and Consultation Service in 2001.

Dr. Beck is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Society for Pediatric Psychology and the Maryland Psychological Association.

Research Summary:

Dr. Beck has a special interest in pediatric psychology and applied behavior analysis. Her research interests include: adherence to complex medical regimens (i.e. Pediatric HIV/AIDS and Spina Bifida), acute and chronic pain management, and behavioral rehabilitation of youth with functional disability.
