Megan Brennan was named vice president of Area Operations for the Eastern Area in December 2006. Brennan is the senior postal official in an area that encompasses Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Delaware, Kentucky, Southern New Jersey and parts of Virginia and Indiana. Reporting to the deputy postmaster general and chief operating officer, she is responsible for postal operations including processing and distribution, customer service and administrative operations.
In this position, Brennan oversees 10 Postal Service districts that operate more than 5,300 Post Offices. The Eastern Area delivers mail daily to more than 38 million customers, has a budget of $7 billion and employs 91,000 people. If it were privately owned, the area would be listed among the Fortune 500 companies.
A 21-year veteran of the Postal Service, Brennan served as vice president of Area Operations for the Northeast Area from May 2005 until being named to her current position. Prior to that, she was manager of Operations Support for the Northeast Area beginning in 2003. In this capacity, she was responsible for coordinating and integrating processing and distribution, transportation and delivery operations throughout the Northeast Area.
After joining the Postal Service in 1986 as a letter carrier in Lancaster, Pa., Brennan began her management career as a delivery and collection supervisor. She has in-depth experience in both line management and support positions, having worked at the district, area and headquarters levels. She served as district manager, Springfield, Mass., and plant manager for the Lehigh Valley, Pa., and Reading, Pa., processing and distribution facilities.
Brennan also has held the headquarters position of manager of Field Support and Integration, where she worked directly for former Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President Clarence Lewis.
Brennan is a graduate of Immaculata College in Pennsylvania. She is a Sloan Fellow and holds a master's of business administration degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
