Maya Youngblood became a therapist at Sierra Tucson in December of 2003. As a trauma survivor, she knows first-hand that some trauma can only be resolved by body-centered therapy. With a master’s degree in Counseling, Maya has studied various types of psychotherapy and several forms of body work, as well. In the early 1990s, Maya became aware of the work of Dr. Peter Levine, the originator of a body centered therapy called Somatic Experiencing. After discovering her own positive response to the work, she became convinced that this type of therapy is integral to transform and heal a trauma survivor’s nervous system. Maya completed the three year Somatic Experiencing training program and became a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She is also a Licensed Psychotherapist (NM & IL), a certified EMDR Level-II Practitioner, and a Licensed Massage Therapist (NM). Maya came to Tucson from Santa Fe, New Mexico, in late 2003. |
