Max DeZara is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Carlyle Group. Max is an industry thought leader, establishing Carlyle as a nationally recognized organization in executive search and human capital assessment. Max is responsible for setting Carlyle's business strategy, and works closely with the Managing Directors in developing new and existing client relationships. Max's twenty-five-plus year career in executive search centers around senior executives. He has recruited CEOs, COOs, CIOs, Board Members and Senior Operating Executives for a diversified portfolio of clients representing emerging growth, publicly traded and professional services organizations.
Max has strategically aligned Carlyle Group with some of the world's leading private equity organizations to identify executive and board-level talent, building operating companies that have created an aggregate market value in excess of $1 Billion.
Max is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of Akoya Capital, LLC, a Merchant Banking subsidiary of Carlyle Group focused on CEO-Led business strategies.
Max is the Founder of Carlyle Group, established in 1982. Carlyle merged with Whitney Group, a global executive search firm in 1998, and was subsequently bought back in early 2004. During his tenure at Whitney, Max served as Vice-Chairman and was a Member of the Board of Directors, playing an integral leadership role and setting business strategy for the global technology practice.
Max is an active member of the National Association of Corporate Directors, the Association for Corporate Growth, and sits on several profit and not-for-profit Boards. He is involved in the Chicago Angel Investor Community, and is an active philanthropist.
