Dr. Link has served as a director of the Company since 1997 and has been the Chairman of the Board of Directors since October 2001. Dr. Link currently provides consulting and advisory services to a number of pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. From 1993 to 1994 Dr. Link served as Chief Executive Officer of Corange Ltd. a life science company that was subsequently acquired by Hoffman-LaRoche. From 1971 to 1993 Dr. Link served in numerous positions with Sandoz Pharma AG culminating in his appointment as Chairman of their Board of Directors in 1992. From 2001 to 2003 Dr. Link served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Centerpulse Ltd. Dr. Link currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Human Genome Sciences Inc. (Nasdaq:HGSI) Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq:ALXN) Cell Therapeutics Inc. (Nasdaq:CTIC) Access Pharmaceuticals Inc. (AMEX: AKC) Protein Design Labs Inc. (Nasdaq: PDLI) Discovery Laboratories Inc. (Nasdaq:DSCO) Columbia Laboratories Inc. (AMEX: COB) and Cytrx Corporation (Nasdaq:CYTR).
