Max Hopper founded Max D. Hopper Associates, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in creating benefits from the strategic use of advanced information technologies, in 1995. Before that, he spent 20 years at AMR Corporation, an air transportation company (American Airlines) and provider of information services to the travel and transportation industry. At AMR, Max served as chairman of the SABRE Group, a technology services business with revenues then in excess of $1.5 billion. Prior to AMR, Max served as executive vice president and chief information officer at Bank of America, where he led the reengineering efforts in the systems and operations areas. He launched his professional system’s career at Shell Oil in 1960 and served with EDS and United Airlines prior or joining American Airlines in 1972. In 1975, Max led a landmark industry study on automating travel agencies. As a result of the subsequent activities by American Airlines and others, Max came to be known as the father of automation in the travel industry. Max currently serves on the board of directors for the Gartner Group; United Stationers, Inc.; Digex; Perficient; and Accrue, Inc. He also serves on the board of directors for several private companies, predominately in the technology sector. Max has received numerous awards over the years, including the Society for Information Management’s 1991 Partners in Leadership Award and the 1995 Data Processing Management Association’s Distinguished Information Sciences Award. In 1999, he was recognized by the editors of CIO Magazine as one of the decade’s 12 most influential IS executives, and in 1997, he became the first IS executive to be inducted into the INFOMART’s Information Processing Hall of Fame |
