Maura Markus is the Head of International Retail Banking for Citi's Global Consumer Group. In this role, she is responsible for strengthening product and distribution expansion and leveraging successful business models to drive growth of our international retail banking operations in 40 countries. Ms. Markus is a member of the Citi Management Committee and the Global Consumer Planning Group.
Prior to assuming her current role, Ms. Markus served as President of Citibank North America, leading 20,000 employees located in more than 900 Financial Centers and customer service centers across the U.S. who provide financial services and advice to 5 million consumers and 300,000 small business clients.
Ms. Markus began her career with Citibank in 1987 and has held various management positions in consumer banking in both the U.S. and Europe. She moved abroad in 1994 to assume senior management roles as Citibank's European Sales and Marketing Director, based in Brussels, and then Country Business Manager for Citibank Greece.
She returned to the U.S. in 2000 to head the Global Consumer Group's retail branch banking business and has been responsible for the successful integration of three acquisitions.
She has been recognized by numerous organizations for her professional and personal contributions. In 2000, she was elected to the YWCA Women Achievers Organization. Ms. Markus also received the Samaritan Foundation's "Woman of Substance" award in 2004 and the "Corporate Angel" award in 2005 from STRIVE, where she was a former member of the Board of Directors.
She currently serves on the Executive Board of Directors of Junior Achievement, where she was recognized as the 2004 Business Leader of the Year and also serves on the Board of Catholic Charities.
Ms. Markus received her BA, summa cum laude, from Boston College and her MBA from Harvard Business School.
