Matthias Pflanz has advised clients on a wide range of competition proceedings before the agencies and courts of the EU, UK, Germany, and various other countries within Europe and elsewhere. He has extensive experience of merger control proceedings in numerous jurisdictions and led the economic team in a number of major EU merger cases, including Air Liquide/BOC, GE/Honeywell and Oracle/PeopleSoft. In other competition proceedings, his clients have included BSkyB, Deutsche Telekom, Lloyds TSB, Orange, Pfizer, and Vodafone. His nonmerger experience encompasses proceedings relating to excessive and exclusionary pricing, dominant firm purchasing practices, cartels and other agreements, and wider market investigations. He acted for General Electric throughout its appeal against the European Commission’s decision in GE/Honeywell, and appeared for GE before the European Court of First Instance. Mr. Pflanz has also provided advice in relation to numerous major commercial arbitration and litigation matters, and has acted as an expert witness in commercial dispute resolution proceedings, including international arbitrations under ICC and other rules. His clients in such proceedings have included major corporations and sovereign states. |
