Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron Matt was a Senior Vice President at Wellspring Partners now a Huron Consulting Group Practice. Previously Matt led the National Office Health Care Performance Improvement practice for Ernst & Young. In that role Matt was responsible for developing and deploying new methodologies tools and techniques for the nationwide consulting practice. Before that Matt was a Senior Consultant for SunHealth (now Premier). Matt was also President and CEO of Prima Health Inc. and President of Harrison Consulting Inc.
Representative examples of Matt's engagement experience include:
Served as chief operating officer and chief turnaround officer for a public hospital district in the Pacific Northwest. During the first year of the turnaround the bottom line improved 5% even though the organization realized only a partial year of benefits and the year included the bulk of the one-time consulting cost. Specific changes included a reduction of more than 14% of the workforce through attrition with improvements in perceived quality of service relations between the medical staff and administration strengthening of technology support and clean-up of the revenue cycle.
Served as interim senior vice president of a five-hospital system in the South during a system-wide turnaround effort. Responsibilities included information systems materials management and the revenue cycle. Matt led a revenue cycle reengineering initiative that reduced days in accounts receivable from 62 to 45 and provided a one-time cash influx of $14M. He also oversaw a non-labor cost reduction initiative that resulted in annual savings of $15M. And he hired a new CIO and repositioned information systems to better support the organization.
Led a hospital-wide labor cost reduction initiative in a major teaching hospital in the Midwest. Matt coordinated a team of 12 specialists to achieve a $10M annual labor savings through process redesign initiatives. All savings opportunities were not only endorsed by departmental management but were also presented to the hospital's executive team by the department heads.
