Matt is an associate in the real estate department. He focuses his practice on mixed-use and other planned developments and on condominium structuring and documentation. Prior to joining Kennedy Covington, Matt practiced in Connecticut and in Florida where he represented landowners, developers, local governments and advocacy groups in large-scale, mixed-use land development matters, affordable housing matters and in related permitting and litigation.
Representative Matters
Negotiated and drafted master and sub-condominium documents for a mixed-use master condominium with over 400,000 square feet of non-residential use and over 100,000 square feet of residential use.
Negotiated and drafted documents for master planned, phased mixed-use communities in eastern North Carolina.
Negotiated and drafted documents to create a condominium out of a corporate headquarters building (comprised of separate sub-buildings) allowing a portion of the building to be sold to and leased back from an investor. The building was not otherwise capable of being subdivided under local ordinances.
Represented master developer in planning, permitting and public financing for a mixed-use campus town center adjacent to a major public university.
Drafted appellate brief in defense of a municipality in affordable housing case (River Bend Associates, Inc. v. Zoning Commission of Town of Simsbury, 856 A.2d 973 [2004]) and assisted oral argument in that case and a companion case before the Connecticut Supreme Court.
