Matthew G. Cunningham is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Washington, D.C. office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, where his practice focuses on patent litigation.
Matthew has experience representing clients in patent litigation in various U.S. District Courts, in arbitration proceedings, and most extensively in Section 337 Investigations before the International Trade Commission (ITC). Matthew’s litigation practice involves a wide range of technologies including semiconductor devices, computer-related technologies, pharmaceuticals, and chemical systems and processes.
Matthew earned a bachelor’s degree in materials science and engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, with a concentration in polymer science and engineering. While in college, Matthew conducted research in the areas of polymer nanocomposites and composite fabrication. Matthew also attended classes at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, studying various forms of renewable energy.
Aside from patent litigation, Matthew has represented clients on a pro bono basis in an employment discrimination matter and in a child custody matter. Prior to joining the Firm, Matthew was a legal intern with the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, where he obtained experience in court advocacy.
Matthew is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
