Matthew graduated summa cum laude from Georgia State University's College of Law in 2002, where he was ranked first in his graduating class and was a member of Law Review. Following law school, he served as a federal judicial clerk to the Honorable Joseph J. Farnan, Jr. of the United States District Court for the District of Delaware (2002 - 2003). Matthew was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 2003. He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in the State of Louisiana, including the Eastern, Middle, and Western District Courts and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association and the American Bar Association (Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section). Matthew's litigation practice is currently focused on commercial, business, and oil and gas matters, and he also conducts oil and gas property title examinations. Matthew has significant experience defending clients in maritime personal injury and mass tort litigation. In addition to litigation matters, Matthew also handles probate disputes and successions, conducts estate planning, and drafts wills and trusts. At a recent public seminar sponsored by the Lafayette Parish Bar Association, Matthew presented a session titled "Wills and Successions in Louisiana." Matthew served in the U.S. Army from 1989 to 1994 as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and 1/509th Parachute Infantry Regiment. While in the service, he attended the U.S. Army's Airborne and Air Assault schools, attained the rank of Sergeant/E-5, and participated in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Matthew also served in the Louisiana Army National Guard from 1994 through 1998 while earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (B.A., magna cum laude, English). |
