Masato Marumo is a Managing Director focused on Japanese buyout and other minority investment opportunities in the TMT (telecom, media and technology) and financial services sectors. He is mainly dealing with large Japanese conglomerates and their various subsidiaries. He is also experienced in cross-border situations where intensive cross-cultural communication becomes critical for success. He is based in Tokyo. Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. Marumo was a Vice President of Industrial Bank of Japan (now Mizuho Corporate Bank) where he was the founding member of the Private Equity Department. Prior to that, Mr. Marumo worked in other areas such as Financial Advisory, Credit Risk Management, and Structured Finance at IBJ. Mr. Marumo received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He received a B.A. in law from Keio University in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Marumo is a member of the Board of Directors of WILLCOM Inc. and Toshiba Ceramics Co., Ltd.
