Mary Klos, MBA, recently joined the Summit Blue team as a Senior Consultant. She has over 20 years of experience in the energy industry. In her time at the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, Ms. Klos served as a Load Forecast Analyst and Supervisor, improving forecasting models to include small area population projections, more detail on customer end-use activities, modelling of naturally-occurring and program-induced demand-side management, and probability-based risk analysis. She prepared and presented testimony on load forecasts in regulatory hearings. She also worked with Public Service Commission's (PSC) Advance Plan regulatory proceedings and worked with other Wisconsin utilities to develop statewide forecasts of electric demand. Eventually, Ms. Klos was able to utilize her knowledge of energy markets and customer energy use to become Marketing Planning Administrator, in which she developed new demand-side programs that would benefit both the utility and the customers. She led a team of six professionals on strategic planning, new product development, department-wide budgeting, sales tracking systems, technical product research, competitive intelligence and quality improvement processes to increase customer value. Most recently, Ms. Klos was responsible for designing and conducting program evaluations and research for new product development as well as improving customer value processes by standardizing and measuring results. Her industry experience includes working with the statewide Demand-side Planning Task Force to coordinate WPS utility plans with other utility plans and statewide policy direction in the areas of energy efficiency and renewables. She was responsible for goal-setting, budgeting and monitoring of goal achievement as well as monthly budgeting reports to provide quick feedback on cost-effectiveness of programs Ms. Klos' in-depth policy development experience includes knowledge of how large industrial, commercial, farm and residential customers use electricity and gas and how their use patterns have changed over time. The impacts of interruptible rates, direct load control, energy efficiency programs and renewable initiatives are all reflected in forecasts. She has worked with generation planners, production cost models and system reliability planning as well as transmission planners small area loadings and loss calculations. She has also worked with rate designers, revenue requirements and cost-of-service studies. Ms. Klos has broad knowledge of the different economic perspectives and the impacts of demand response, energy efficiency and renewables programs, which are the underpinning of sound policy analysis. Summit Blue looks forward to putting her extensive experience and expertise in research and evaluation; strategic planning and product development; and load forecasting to use on upcoming projects. Ms. Klos earned a BA in Economics from Beloit College and a MBA from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. |
