Marvin Marshall enters his first season with the Dolphins after spending the 2006 season as an offensive assistant with the San Diego Chargers. Prior to that, he was an assistant to the wide receivers coach with the New Orleans Saints in 2005 after serving as an offensive assistant with the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europa that spring. Marshall also was the offensive coordinator with the Augusta (Ga.) Spartans of the World Indoor Football League in the spring of 2006.
Marshall was a four-year starter at quarterback at South Carolina State, from 1991-94. He was the MEAC Offensive Player of the Year as a senior when he led the team to a 10-2 record and became the first player in conference history to throw and run for 1,000 yards in the same season. He earned his degree in business management in the spring of 1995. Marshall went to camp with Indianapolis as an undrafted college free agent in 1995, where he was converted to wide receiver and return specialist. After being released in camp by the Colts, he spent time with Tampa Bay from 1995-98, in addition to the Barcelona Dragons of the NFL Europe League in 1996 and the Carolina Cobras of the Arena League in 2000.
His first stop as a coach came at Hephzibah (Ga.) High School in 2001. He also was the offensive coordinator at Josey High School in Augusta, Ga., from 2002-04.
Marshall, who attended Butler High School in Augusta, is the younger brother of former Denver Broncos and New York Giants wide receiver Arthur Marshall. Marvin and his wife, Lascotia, have two sons, Marvin, Jr. and Matlin. |
