As FBR’s director of research, Martin Friedman leads a team of more than 100 equity, fixed-income, and policy analysts that cover more than 600 companies.
The equity analysts focus their expertise on eight vertical industry sectors financial institutions, insurance, real estate, technology, media & telecom, energy & natural resources, healthcare, diversified industrials, and consumer; the economic and policy analysts add their insights to political, regulatory, and economic trends and events.
Mr. Friedman is an experienced equity researcher himself. In 1994, American Banker named him one of the country’s top thrift analysts, and in 1997, Barron’s identified him as a top financial services analyst.
Mr. Friedman earned his B.S. in finance from the University of Maryland and began his research career in Washington, D.C., as a financial analyst at Johnston Lemon & Co. in 1987. He became FBR’s director of research in 1998, after nine years as a senior equity analyst.
As FBR’s director of research, Mr. Friedman articulated the department’s mission statement, under which it still operates today.
