Martin Welch was appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer of United Rentals in 2006. His more than three decades of financial management experience include numerous executive positions with private and public companies. Prior to becoming interim chief financial officer of United Rentals in 2005 Mr. Welch served as director and business advisor to the private equity firm York Management Services. From 1995 to 2001 Mr. Welch served as chief financial officer for Kmart Corporation where he was instrumental in restructuring the company's balance sheet and strengthening its financial operations. In 1998 CFO Magazine recognized Mr. Welch as a finalist for CFO of the Year for his success in building a high impact finance team at Kmart. He served as chief financial officer for Federal-Mogul Corporation from 1991 to 1995 and held various finance positions at Chrysler Corporation from 1982 to 1991 including that of chief financial officer for Chrysler Canada. Mr. Welch began his career at Arthur Young (now Ernst & Young) and is a certified public accountant. He serves on the boards of Delphi Corporation and York portfolio company Northern Group Retail Ltd. He holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting and a master of business administration degree in finance both from the University of Detroit Mercy. |
