During law school, Martin was a member of the Law Review from 1986 - 1988 and served as a member of the Loyola Law Clinic from 1987 - 1988. Martin has been active in the local and federal bar associations. He was elected to a two-year term on the Council of the Young Lawyers Section of the Louisiana Bar Association, where he served as Chairman of the Young Lawyers Section Continuing Legal Education Committee from 1998 - 2000, and as a Delegate of the Louisiana Young Lawyers Division for the American Bar Association Annual Meeting in 1999. He was appointed to serve on the Louisiana State Bar Association Legal Education Program Committee from 1998 - 2000, and has been a member of the Civil Litigation Section and the Corporate and Business Law Section of the State Bar. Martin periodically served as a Judge, Ad Hoc on the Juvenile Court for the Parish of Orleans. Martin has also been active in the local community. He has participated as a speaker in the law awareness programs for high school students sponsored by the Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education and has served as President of the Lakeview Civic Improvement Association, and Commissioner of the Lakeview Crime Prevention Taxing District. Following Hurricane Katrina, Martin has been intricately involved in the city's unified planning and neighborhood redevelopment initiatives, chairing the District 5 (Lake Area) Neighborhood Recovery Group, re-drafting commercial, multi-family and residential zoning regulations, directing the formation of a local community development corporation and other business and community based programs. Martin's practice includes complex corporate litigation, class action defense, telecommunications, zoning, construction, real estate, insurance and general litigation. Martin has drafted and negotiated leases, purchase and sale agreements, contracts, rights of way acquisitions and fiber optic capacity use agreements for local and national business clients. He has extensive litigation experience in the Louisiana Federal and State district and appellate courts, and has represented clients before city and state agencies on tax, franchise, zoning and other government-related issues. |
