Marshall Sonenshine is an investment banker specializing in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. As a partner in Wolfensohn & Co., he became a founding partner in BT Wolfensohn, the mergers and acquisitions department of Bankers Trust established following BT's acquisition of Wolfensohn in 1996. At Bankers Trust, Mr. Sonenshine headed the firm's media and transportation mergers and acquisitions practices as part of the bank's global investment banking arm, BT Alex. Brown, and its successor organization, Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown, where he was asked to be Co-Head of Mergers and Acquisitions. Prior to joining Wolfensohn, Mr. Sonenshine worked for Salomon Brothers, where he handled corporate finance and M&A assignments.
Mr. Sonenshine has advised on leading M&A transactions globally, including the largest software merger of 2001, the merger of SDRC into EDS, creating the global leader in collaboration software and product knowledge management; the merger of Capstar Broadcasting into Chancellor Media, which created the world's then largest radio broadcasting company; the merger of American Tower Corporation and OmniAmerica, which created the world's largest operator of telecommunications towers; Disney's $20 billion acquisition of Capital Cities ABC; the sale of Guber-Peters Entertainment Company to Sony in connection with Sony's purchase of Columbia Pictures; the defense and ultimate sale of The United States Shoe Corporation to Luxottica SpA; and the two largest aircraft finance transactions in history: the $10 billion restructuring of GPA Group plc with General Electric Capital Corporation and the sale of International Lease Finance Corporation to AIG.
Mr. Sonenshine received a BA from Brown University and a JD from Harvard University, where he served as an Editor of the Harvard Law Review. He subsequently served as a law clerk to The Honorable Lawrence W. Pierce of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Mr. Sonenshine is a member of the New York Bar, and several other companies. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a Trustee and member of the Executive Committee of the International Center of Photography, Vice Chairman of the Board of ArtsConnection, the New York arts and music education organization, and a past Member of the Executive Committee of the Brown Annual Fund. |
