Marlon R. Dauner is founder, president and CEO of Preferred Health Systems, Inc. PHS is the for-profit insurance division of Via Christi Health System.
The largest managed care provider in Kansas, PHS insures more than 210,000 lives. It has revenues in excess of $330 million through the following subsidiaries:
Preferred Health Care, Inc., a PPO
Preferred Plus of Kansas, Inc., an HMO
Preferred Health Systems Insurance Company, a life and health insurance company Kansas Health Plan, Inc., a network of physicians and hospitals for risk assumption
Preferred Benefits Administrator, a newly formed third party claims administration entity for self-funded employers.
PHS was founded in 1994 and was acquired by Via Christi Health System in 1999.
Since 1987, Dauner has been a partner in Dauner Gannaway & Associates managed health care consultants. Prior to 1987, he served as President and CEO of American Healthcare Plans, Inc., in San Diego, a managed care company for 32 hospital systems. Dauner was previously employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, eventually serving as senior vice president of external affairs. Dauner also worked for the Kansas Hospital Association developing a Prospective Reimbursement System subsequently operated by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and the Kansas Hospital Association.
Dauner received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stanford University and a Masters in Public Administration from Kansas State University. He has taught at six different universities and is currently a lecturer at Wichita State University, Friends University and Newman College. He has presented seminars for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and the American Hospital Association. Dauner presently serves on the Boards of Directors of Guadalupe Clinic, Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Orpheum Theatre and Newman University, and is on the Wichita State University College of Health Professions Dean's Advisory Committee. He is a past member of United Way of the Plains (executive committee). |
