Mark Wössner was born in 1938 in Berlin. After his degree at the Technical University of Karlsruhe where he studied mechanical engineering he was appointed to the scientific staff of the Institute of Precision Engineering at the Technical University Stuttgart where he received his doctorate. From 1968 onwards Wössner worked for 32 years for Bertelsmann AG.
He began as Management Assistant, was soon promoted to Chief Operations Officer Mohndruck, then Chief Executive Officer of Mohndruck and was appointed in 1976 a member of the Executive Board of Bertelsmann AG . From 1981 he was Deputy Chairman and from 1983 Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Executive Board until reaching the retirement age limit in 1998. From 1998 he was Chairman of the Board of the Bertelsmann Foundation and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bertelsmann AG until the end of 2000.
In 2001 he moved to Munich. Here he serves on a number of supervisory and advisory bodies nationally and internationally.
Mark Wössner is Chairman of Citigroup in Germany and Chairman of its German Advisory Board.
He presently holds Supervisory Board memberships at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Chairman), Douglas AG, Loewe AG, eCircle AG, Reuters AG.
Mark Wössner is actively engaged in a variety of offices in the cultural, social and academic domain. |
