Mark is a former Naval Officer with over 22 years experience in leadership, engineering (nuclear & electrical), strategic planning, mentoring, training and business development. He was certified as a Nuclear Engineer Officer by Naval Reactors in 1989 and has been Nuclear Engineering Officer of the Watch qualified since 1986. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Naval Postgraduate School and BS Mathematics from the United States Naval Academy. He was the SPAWAR Advancement in Electronics recipient in 1993 for his thesis research on stabilizing DC power systems. During his Naval Career, Mark completed eight sea tours, including Commanding Officer tours in two ships, USS MOUNT VERNON (LSD 39) and USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61), where he led over 600 sailors & marines and managed multi-million dollar maintenance, materials, personnel and operations budgets. His engineering experience includes nuclear Division Officer where he led 30 sailors, electrical engineering Instructor and Division Director at the prestigious Naval Nuclear Power School, nuclear Engineering Officer (Department Head) where he led 220 sailors and was responsible for two 150Mw nuclear reactors, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer tours in LM2500 gas turbine ships and Commanding Officer in a boiler steam plant. Mark was also hand selected to serve on two Admiral staffs, including his most recent experience, where he was the operations and training subject matter expert, mentor and principal technical advisor to Numbered Fleet Commanders (3-star Admirals) and Aircraft Carrier Strike Group Commanders (2-star Admirals). Mark’s reputation as the fleet expert in maritime operations combined with his respected leadership, technical expertise and communication skills were in high demand as he mentored the brightest naval officers and was frequently requested to brief the highest levels of Navy leadership. |
