With more than 28 years of experience leading and managing companies in the water and wastewater industry, Mr. Swatek joined Southwest Water Company in May 2006 as its chairman of the board and chief executive officer, succeeding Anton C. Garnier.
Prior to Southwest Water, Mr. Swatek was president of MWH Municipal and State Services, the largest operating division of MWH Global, a $1-billion worldwide engineering consulting and construction firm that specializes in serving the municipal water and wastewater market. In this capacity, he managed municipal operations, generating $350 million in annual revenues, primarily involving water/wastewater engineering, program management, and facility design-build activities for city, county and state governments throughout the U.S.
Prior to this position, Mr. Swatek was President of MWH Constructors, the design-build construction subsidiary of MWH. Responsible for rapid top and bottom line growth of the subsidiary, he created one of the top integrated design-build-operate companies focusing on water/wastewater facilities in the U.S. and the U.K. Having started his professional career in the mid 1970s, he has lent his engineering and management expertise to a number of companies throughout the years, including ATEC Associates, Camp Dresser & McKee, Simon Hydro-Search, Versar Architects & Engineers and CDM Engineers & Constructors.
Mr. Swatek earned both his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in civil engineering from Purdue University, and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. A registered professional civil engineer, he has served as a director on a number of boards of engineering and contractor companies. |
