Mark A. Harris is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Chicago office. As a member of the Corporate Department, Mark’s practice focuses on the representation of public and private companies on merger and acquisition, securities, start-up and general corporate matters, with a special emphasis on representing private equity portfolio companies and sponsor groups.
During his 20+ year legal career, Mark has handled a wide variety of corporate, technology, tax and litigation matters for clients of all types and sizes. His well-known transactions include the acquisition of The Pebble Beach Company by a group of investors headed by Peter Ueberroth, Clint Eastwood, Arnold Palmer and Richard Ferris, the acquisition of Holiday Corporation by Bass plc and the acquisition of RJR Nabisco, Inc. by Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co. He has regularly counseled such companies as Sears, Roebuck and Co., Harrah’s Entertainment, Playtex, Bally Total Fitness and The St. Joe Company.
Prior to joining MWE, Mark was the COO and a Principal, Portfolio Manager of GTCR Golder Rauner, LLC, a leading Chicago-based private equity firm. During his tenure with GTCR, he served as a member of the Boards of Directors of three GTCR portfolio companies: Global Imaging Systems, Inc.; National Equipment Services, Inc. and International Computer Graphics, Inc. Previously, Mark was a senior executive and the chief legal officer for two VC-backed portfolio companies -- PrairieComm, Inc., a wireless chip-set development company, and Click Commerce, Inc., a software and consulting firm. He recently rejoined the Board of Global Imaging (Nasdaq: GISX).
Mark is admitted to practice in Illinois.
He is a member of the American and Illinois State Bar Associations.
