Marisa N. Demato earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Florida Atlantic University and her Juris Doctor degree from University of Baltimore School of Law. While at the University of Baltimore School of Law, Ms. DeMato served as a legal intern for the Office of the Attorney General in Annapolis, Maryland, working directly with the Deputy Attorney General for the Maryland General Assembly. In addition, Ms. DeMato served as a congressional intern for United States Representative Robert Wexler (D-FL) in Washington, DC and Boca Raton, FL, assisting Congressman Wexler with a variety of legislative issues, including, among others, health care and campaign reform.
A substantial portion of Ms. DeMato's time is devoted to aggressively representing investors in class actions involving securities fraud by public companies and their officers. Ms. DeMato is also actively involved in prosecuting a number of consumer fraud cases throughout the nation. Ms. DeMato has been a member of the litigation teams responsible for the successful prosecution of several securities and consumer class actions, including: In re TECO Energy, Inc. Sec. Litig. ($17.35 million settlement); In re Newpark Res., Inc. Sec. Litig. ($9.24 million settlement); and Lewis v. Labor Ready, Inc. ($11 million settlement).
Ms. DeMato devotes a significant amount of time to the Firm's Institutional Investor Services, specifically, meeting with public and private pension funds, retirement systems, and other institutional investors to educate them about the Firm's Portfolio Monitoring Program.
In the spring of 2006, Ms. DeMato was selected over 250,000 applicants to appear on the sixth season of The Apprentice, which aired on January 7, 2007 on NBC. As a result of her role on The Apprentice, Ms. DeMato has appeared in numerous news media outlets, such as the Wall Street Journal, People magazine, and various national legal journals.
Ms. DeMato is admitted to practice law in the state courts of Florida, as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida. Ms. DeMato is currently or has been a member of the American Bar Association, the Palm Beach County Bar Association, and the Women's Bar Association.
