Since returning to Brazil after an eighteen-year period overseas, he combines a world-class network of professionals, firms and institutions with a broad-based Brazilian and Latin American practice in a wide-ranging scope of activity. As founder and senior partner of MM Associados a strategic consultancy firm based in São Paulo, specializing in international trade and investment Mr. Marconini has had a highly diversified roster of clients. They include prominent institutions, such as the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP); the Brazilian Federation of Banks (FEBRABAN); other major domestic and multinational firms from various countries and involved in various business sectors; international organizations such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, UNCTAD and the WTO; and governments around the world. Mr. Marconini was Counselor at the GATT/WTO, Geneva, for eight years, from 1988 to 1996. He served in government on two occasions: as Deputy Secretary of International Affairs at the Ministry of Finance (1996-1998) and as Foreign Trade Secretary (1999). In recognition of his service, Mr. Marconini received the Order of Rio Branco, Brazil’s highest honorary award in the rank of Commendator in 1997. Mr. Marconini currently presides over the Services Dialogue, a coalition of more than 25 representative service sector institutions and organizations. He is also the President of the Council on International Relations at Brazil’s most prominent retail and wholesale federation Fecomercio. Mr. Marconini is fluent in Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Italian, and has a working knowledge of German and Russian.
