Mario Shaffer is Senior Managing Director and Head of the Financial Sponsors Group where he is responsible for the Firm's private equity and venture capital clients. Before joining FBR, Mr. Shaffer was an executive-in-residence at New Enterprise Associates ("NEA"), a $6 billion venture capital firm.
Prior to NEA, Mr. Shaffer was CEO of VerticalNet Europe, B.V. In addition, he was Senior Vice President of Business Development and International Division of VerticalNet, Inc. (NASDAQ: VERT). As a member of the officer team, he played a key role in the company's highly successful initial public offering in 1999.
Prior to VerticalNet, Mr. Shaffer was Group Director of Marketing and Business Development at America Online, Inc. (now owned by Time Warner) from 1995-1998.
Mr. Shaffer had a brief career in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns. He is a graduate of The College of William and Mary, where he is a member of The President's Council and trustee of the William and Mary Athletic Education Foundation. |
