Ms. Bergman is co-chair of the Intellectual Property Practice Group of Cooper, White & Cooper LLP. She focuses her practice on intellectual property law with an emphasis on trademark and copyright counseling, registration, prosecution and litigation. Ms. Bergman has particular expertise in the area of trade dress registration and litigation. She has extensive trial experience in state courts, federal courts and before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including trademark infringement litigation, cancellation actions, and domain name disputes. She is also an effective advocate for her clients in mediation and arbitration, where her effective presentations have produced outstanding results, particularly in the settlement of intellectual property lawsuits. Ms. Bergman advises clients on licensing, assignments and internet related legal issues including domain name registrations, and other intellectual property matters. Ms. Bergman also represents businesses in complex civil litigation and advises commercial clients in matters involving contract disputes, distributorship matters, licensing, unfair competition, false advertising, unfair business practices and class actions. Ms. Bergman spearheaded an intellectual property enforcement program on behalf of the UK-based manufacturer of Dr. Martens® footwear, and obtained judgments in U.S. District Courts permanently enjoining numerous defendants from worldwide infringement of the Dr. Martens trade dress rights and providing for substantial damage recoveries. She advises clients on intellectual property issues worldwide, working with a network of attorneys throughout the world on trademark and other legal matters. Ms. Bergman received her B.A. in political science from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1974 and her J.D. from Hastings College of the Law in 1977. She is an active member of the International Trademark Association, the Bar Association of San Francisco (Intellectual Property Section) and the Napa Valley Grape Growers Association. Ms. Bergman is admitted to the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District, Central District and Eastern District of California. |
